The Anime was received very well among audiences, especially those among fans of the Manga. Aspects of the Anime were greatly praised as the events faithfully followed those of the Manga, however, this praise turned to controversy around episode 35 as the events in the Anime strayed from those of the Manga. The producers of the Anime, BONES Entertainment, unfortunately settled in on only a 51 episode Anime, and strayed away from events in the Manga in order to adapt their own story in order to finish the Anime within the 51 episode agreement. In this process opinions of the audience became mixed. The challenging action of trying to end the Anime early left many unanswered questions and tragically underused characters. Many of the critiques revolve around the feel of the ending seeming very rushed, and noticeable underuse of characters and information learned before the stray from the Manga. Some fans even stated that they had originally not thought that the Anime had ended upon viewing the final episode. This is understandable due to the fact that the characters all seem to have an outroduction that is open ended. Examples include that Giriko specifically states that he would return to fight Justin Law once again, Medussa being revealed to still be alive in the credits, and the fact that Death the Kid openly states that the main cast's work is far from over, and even that another Kishin will be born. Kid says all this deliberately after the fight with the Kishin is over. This has lead to a large demand for the Anime to have a second season or another Anime to be produced. Fortunately, the producers of the Anime appear to have the intention to continue their work with the Soul Eater Anime.
